Construction of School Buildings

Through EQRA Project

Based on the instruction of H.E Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan MRRD/CCNPP is assigned for constructing 6,000 school buildings in 34 provinces in two years. By construction of these schools, around 2.5 million children will gain access to healthy learning environment in the villages, the quality of education will be enhanced and employment opportunities will be created for thousands of citizens across the country.

CCNPP engineering team has developed 28 types of designs considering climatic and geographical conditions into four categories comprised of 6, 8, 10, and 12 classroom schools respectively with local construction materials for use.

The construction of these schools will be completed in 2 phases. In first phase, around 2,647 school buildings will be constructed in 17 provinces including Kabul, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Logar, Khost, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Paktika, Kunduz, Balkh, Faryab, Herat, Badghis, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul.

Among these schools, 1,208 will be combined of boys’ and girls’ schools while the rest will be for boys.

So far:

760 school projects completed

2,647 schools planned in first phase

Based on the Ministry of Education, currently around 50% of schools do not have buildings in Afghanistan and upon construction of these 6,000 school buildings, 80% of MoE’s challenges will be resolved in terms of access to school buildings.
