Rehabilitation of an Irrigation Canal Project in Samangan

Kabul, September 24, 2020 – Approximately, 200 families in Shahr-e-Naw village, Khuram-wa-Sarbagh district of Samangan province have gained access to a proper irrigation and water supply system after their 140-meter canal and 56-meter protection wall were successfully rehabilitated by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP).

The rehabilitation of the irrigation canal and protection wall project worth AFN 2,251,000 funded by the MRRD/CCNPP will supply water to a total of 147 jirabs of land which will lead to a significant increase in yield of crops that may contribute to substantial increases in rural household incomes earned from farm employment on the ground.

In addition, some 1,555 labor days have been created for both local skilled and unskilled laborers during the execution of canal and protection wall project.

It is worth mentioning that hundreds of Citizens’ Charter-funded development projects are currently underway, while some of them have already been completed in various communities of Samangan province.
