Kabul, August 20, 2020 - Seven infrastructure projects worth AFN 25 million funded by the Maintenance and Construction Cash Grant (MCCG) Project under the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) have recently been completed in Surkhrud district of Nangarhar province.

A total of 41,680 labor days have been created for both skilled and unskilled laborers during the implementation of these projects in Barkakokhil, Markazi Gnda Chishma, Bar Chaharbagh, Markazi Chaharbagh, Mastikhil, Swatikhil and Burhanudin villages.

The projects directly benefiting some 2,978 families include graveling of a rural road 10 km in length, maintenance of a 2,000-meter irrigation canal and construction of a 650-meter protection wall.

The Maintenance and Construction Cash Grant (MCCG) is a grant provided for communities to rehabilitate, extend existing or construct new public infrastructure subprojects, in such a manner that a minimum of 60% of the grant for the given community should be utilized for labor. The main objective of MCCG program is to create jobs to mitigate seasonal hunger during the lean season in the high Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Returnee influx areas.
