Kabul, June 25, 2020 – An irrigation project consisted of a canal, an aqueduct and a couple of water dividers has recently been completed in Abdul Baqi Khan Khisrawabad Sharqi village, Nawa Barakzai district of Helmand province. The project not only solved the community problems over the division of water, but also helped prevent water waste in the canal which was unpaved in the past.

The Irrigation project worth AFN 1,650,000 funded by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) including 10% community contribution (financial, labor or in-kind) is consisted of a 140-meter canal, a 27-meter aqueduct and two water dividers in different parts.

Directly benefiting a total of 70 families, the irrigation canal is capable of supplying water to 132 hectares of land in the region.

Moreover, around 858 labor days have been generated for both skilled and unskilled laborers during the execution of canal project.

It is worth mentioning that hundreds of Citizens’ Charter-funded public utility projects in different sectors are currently underway, while some of them have already been completed in various communities of Helmand province.
